A lot can change in a week.

Last Sunday, the DePaul Blue Demons received their second verbal commitment from a top 100 guy in the class of 2019 when Lincoln Park High School wing Terrence Shannon Jr. announced his commitment to DePaul.

Just one week later, Shannon Jr. has had a change of heart, telling 247Sports.com writer Evan Daniels that he has reopened his recruitment. He elaborated on his decision to Rivals.com writer Corey Evans.

“I just wanted to open my recruitment back up,” Shannon Jr. told Rivals.com. “It was nothing against DePaul. I just feel like I rushed my decision and didn’t see all of the options that I had on the table with my prior offers.”

DePaul, Maryland, Florida State, and Illinois remain in contention as Shannon Jr. rethinks his college decision. After breaking out on the AAU circuit this spring and summer (14.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game), Shannon Jr. began receiving a flurry of Division I scholarship offers after ending his senior season at Lincoln Park High School with zero Division I offers. He will attend prestigious preparatory school IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. for the 2018-2019 school year.

For DePaul, Shannon’s announcement brings back bad memories of when 2018 target Tyger Campbell gave a verbal commitment to the Blue Demons on May 8, 2017 then reopened his recruitment four months later. The point guard ultimately decided to take his talents to UCLA.

The silver lining encased in this latest round of bad news is that 247sports.com No. 40 recruit in the class of 2019 Romeo Weems remains verbally committed to the Blue Demons. When both he and Shannon Jr. were committed to DePaul, 247Sports.com ranked the Blue Demon’s 2019 recruiting class as the seventh best in the nation.

The recruiting gods continue to frown upon the Blue Demons as head coach Dave Leitao will have some work to do as he continues to try to add talent around Weems for 2019 and beyond.
