The Jets are landing at the Metro

The Jets are landing at the Metro next week and it couldn’t be at a better time.

The Jets, not to be confused with New York or Winnipeg sports teams, are a cast of lyrically dynamic rappers out of New Orleans. Their CEO and headliner Curren$y started the jets movement known as Jet Life, as a way to promote staying fly and achieving success. Jet Life has an indie following that has become popular over the last couple years, as they’ve given new meaning to southern rap.

After selling out the Metro last year, Curren$y, “tha hot spitta,” is returning for round two. Last year he stole the show on a warm May night. He went on the second after the Bulls dropped game 5, and by the end of the night the loss was less painful.

It was also the night before DePaul ‘s FEST, which allowed Curren$y to bring out Wiz Khalifa for the remix of “Super High,” which was originally a Rick Ross track featuring Ne-Yo. That combined with an appearance of Chi City’s Mikey Rocks gave the show a memorable flair that created local buzz for the New Orleans rapper and his crew.

Curren$y released two albums last year and is currently touring his second album of 2012. His first album this year, titled “The Muscle Car Chronicles” came out in February, and is only a preview of the highly anticipated “Stoned Immaculate,” which is set to drop on June 2. This year’s appearance is guaranteed to feature tracks off both albums, so expect a few guests…

“Stoned Immaculate” features track appearances by Lil Wayne, Two Chains, Wiz Khalifa, and Estelle, so who knows who you might turn up in Wrigleyville that night.

The Jets never disappoint live. Their charismatic sense of humor engages the crowd, getting them pumped for a great display of classic track samples and stimulating lyrics. Combine that with the group’s unorthodox yet strong delivery, and you have what can be termed a classic.

Fly with the Jets Wednesday, May 23 at 9pm. The 18+ show is at the Metro.
