    Women’s tennis ousted in first round of NCAA tournament

    After receiving the program’s first-ever bid to the NCAA Championship, No. 30 DePaul women’s tennis lost 4-1 Friday in Ann Harbor during the first round to No. 34 Ohio State. Although No. 18 doubles team Anna Redecsi and Selma Salkovic were up 6-5 versus Ohio’s Kelsey Haviland and Cami Hubbs, their match went unfinished as both the Katarina Milinkovic and Sandra Zmak duo and Kirsten Gambrell and Gia McKnight pair lost their matches. Milinkovic and Zmak, who finished first, lost 8-2 to Paloma Escobeo and Christina Keesey, followed by Gambrell and McKnight’s 8-5 loss to Gabby Steele Fidan Manashirova. DePaul left the doubles matches down 1-0.Ohio’s Hubbs added another point to the team’s lead with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Gambrell on the sixth court. The fifth court gave way to a third Ohio victory, with Keesey beating McNight 6-4 in a 6-0 win. DePaul’s Zmak’s fourth court 6-4, 7-5 win over Steele put the team’s first point on the board. However, Ohio’s Escobedo had a 6-2, 7-5 win over Salkovic, ending the match. Both Milinkovic and Redecsi were up in their matches, but went unfinished.

    Although the team’s season is over, Redecsi and Salkovic will compete May 26-31 at the NCAA Doubles Championship in Georgia at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
