The Walking Dead’ ends third season with suspense

“The Walking Dead,” one of the most well-known television dramas on the air, ends its third season with many questions still to be answered. For those unfamiliar with the series, “The Walking Dead” is a drama set in a post-apocalyptic world, where at least half the population has been wiped out by walkers, also known as zombies.

It is based on the graphic novel series of “The Walking Dead” and airs on AMC every Sunday at 8 p.m. Throughout the first two seasons, the main protagonists were a group of Survivors, led by Rick Grimes, who have stuck together to fight against the walking dead. Some survived, some didn’t.

Over the first two seasons, Rick’s group has been forced to travel from place to place to live in because walkers kept overrunning their shelter. However, at the end of the second season, Rick’s group found a secure shelter to live in, in which they were able to clear all the walkers residing there. Having headed into season three, Rick’s group encounters new enemies, which is another group of survivors living in a small town named Woodbury. This new group of survivors is led by a man known as The Governor. It all began when one of one of The Governor’s people kidnapped two people from Rick’s group. Rick’s group retaliated by trying to save their people, killing any of The Governor’s people who got in the way.

There’s more backstory and detail to how this created a personal vendetta between the two groups, but I won’t reveal too much about that. Throughout the season, a survivor named Andrea thought the war between these two groups was ridiculous. She lived with the Woodbury survivors in season three, but she was with Rick’s group in the first two seasons, until she got separated from them. Andrea struggles to have Rick and The Governor compromise with each other to end this war. Rick’s willing to compromise, but The Governor refuses. The Governor makes a fake compromise with Rick, which is that he would leave his group alone if Rick were to hand over Michonne to him. Michonne is a survivor who had a past history with The Governor. The Governor wanted to get his revenge.

Rick eventually decides that he won’t give up Michonne and decided to go to war with The Governor and his soldiers. It was a well-fought war, but left so many questions up in the air. Rick’s group strategically succeeded this war as it scared off the Woodbury soldiers who survived. Most of the Woodbury soldiers agreed to let Rick’s group live in peace at the prison, much to The Governor’s dismay. The Governor went on a rampage and killed several of his people for not wanting to finish the job. He flees with two of his most loyal people.

We end the season with some tragic losses, including Woodbury rebels Andrea and Milton Mamet, who secretly rebelled against The Governor for his ways. The Governor is alive and still on the loose. Rick’s group takes in all the innocent survivors of Woodbury to the prison when they find out that The Governor is a legitimate psychopath. It’s unknown if The Governor plans to finish the job in killing Rick and his group, or what he decides to do next. Overall, the season finale was a decent way to finish off this season, but it doesn’t leave everyone completely satisfied. It leaves the fans wondering what’s going to happen next.

The Governor’s storyline isn’t finished yet. The season finale doesn’t end with a potential big storyline unrelated to war on The Governor. The war against the living still goes on, while the walkers, the real enemies, continue to increase in numbers.
