This Friday and Saturday, from sundown to sundown marks the National Day of Unplugging. This project created by the Reboot network in 2002 aims to encourage people to disconnect their laptops, cell phones and television for 24 hours and instead spend a day reconnecting with their communities, neighbors, friends and families. So in the spirit of the National Day of Unplugging here are a few events going on in Chicago this weekend, where you can leave your cellphone at home.
Miley Cyrus, Allstate Arena

People tend to either adore or despise Miley Cyrus, but no matter your Cyrus stance you won’t want to miss the Bangerz Tour is it arrives at Allstate Arena this Friday. Shriek in either horror or delight as Cyrus twerks on stage to “We Can’t Stop” and don’t deny yourself the experience of belting out “Wrecking Ball” in an arena full of thousands of other Cyrus fans. Icona Pop and Sky Ferreira will be opening for Cyrus. Tickets for the concert are available through Ticketmaster and range from $60.25-101.25 including fees.
March First Fridays: Spring Break, Museum of Contemporary Art

If a Miley Cyrus concert really isn’t how you want to spend your Friday night, visit the Museum of Contemporary Art for their First Friday event. The museum promises to help attendees escape Chiberia for the night through their collection or art, music and performances. Some highlights of the night include artist Alex Rauch and his Bicycle Karaoke Machine, Justin Cooper’s comedy performance art project “Springthing,” and (((Sonorama))) a Chicago-based DJ collective. The event is 21+ and tickets can be purchased in Advance for $14 and at the door for $18. There will be a cash bar and food for purchase until 9:30 p.m.
Peace on Earth Film Festival, Chicago Cultural Center

The Chicago Cultural Center will be hosting the Peace on Earth Film Festival this weekend, which showcases the work of independent filmmakers from around the world. The films feature themes of human rights, social justice, bully and more from multiple cultural perspectives. Make sure to catch “BridgeWalkers,” which will be screened Sunday at 11 a.m. The documentary follows a group of Tribal Leaders from around the world who have gathered in Greenland on a quest to restore balance to the earth. They share the wisdom, prophecies and ceremonies of their ancestors and work together to reveal a message of hope for future generations. Admission to the festival is free.
