Weekend round-up: Jan. 31-Feb. 2

Chicago Restaurant Week may have started last Friday, but it’ll still be kicking this weekend. Enjoy lunch and dinner at some of Chicago’s best and most unique restaurants.  Visit Beatrix Restaurant for some delish American food in River North.  Start off with their tomato soup, and then enjoy their warm pot roast sandwich, followed by a dessert from their coffee bar. For dinner, get some delicious Italian food at Balena in Lincoln Park.  Tuna and white bean bruschetta, spaghetti cacio e pepe and skuna bay salmon are just a few of the options on their menu.  All prices for lunch during restaurant week are fixed at $22 and for dinner $33 or $44 excluding beverages, tax and gratuity.  Visit Chicago Restaurant Week’s website for a list of all participating restaurants.

One of the best ways to follow up a delicious dinner is by attending an exciting musical production.  For those who appreciate the classics, “The Phantom of the Opera” is currently at the Cadillac Palace Theatre.   For those who don’t know, the musical is based on a French novel of the same name. The plot follows the story of a young girl, Christine and her relationship with a mysterious phantom in the Opera house she grew up in.  Student rush tickets are available day of at the box office for $25.

If you’re still thawing out from the polar vortex, you can speed up the process by attending the Epitonic Deep Freeze Festival this weekend.  The two-day festival showcases a variety of electronic musicians such as Carbon Tigers and Chandeliers as well as comedians such as Mike Lebovitz and Adam Burke.  The festival takes place at both Double Door and The Subterranean. Festival passes are available for $40 as well as individual concert tickets between $10-$20.
