Weekend round up: Sept. 6-8

The end of summer has finally arrived. It’s hard to believe that this time next week we will be carrying backpacks full of books around campus and preparing for the school year ahead. But there’s still a little bit of time left for some shenanigans in the city. So spend your last weekend of freedom (until winter break, at least) wisely.

Music lovers should grab tickets to A.V. Fest.   Taking place at the Hideout this Friday and Saturday, the festival has a strong line up that’ll impress most alternative rock music fans.  Make sure to check out The Walkmen as well as Young the Giant’s sets on Saturday, both bands put on a great show.  Tickets are a little pricey at $70 for a two-day pass, but single day tickets are available for $35 on Friday and $40 on Saturday.

The delicious smell of chipotle burritos will be wafting over Lincoln Park this Saturday, as Chipotle’s Cultivate festival of food, music and ideas will be taking place in Lincoln Park.   There will be tasting halls, demonstrations and tips from Chefs including Carla Hall and Tony Mantuano and a music stage featuring artists such as The Mowgli’s and Walk the Moon.  The festival is sure to make you hungry, so If you check out four of the cultivate experience at the festival, you’ll receive a card to get a free burrito

After spending your Saturday eating at Cultivate, work of those calories Sunday night at the Spirit of Music Garden in Grant Park. The Chicago SummerDance program will be offering free dance lessons and live music in the park. From 4 to 5 p.m., learn the ballroom dancing basics, and then spend the rest of the night (or at least from 5 to 7 p.m.) practicing your new moves. Nancy Hays and the Robert Benson Orchestra as well as Fred Astaire Dance Studio will be providing the music and moves this Sunday.
